Objectivism does not claim that force is the worst experience. It claims that force is the worst structure — because it makes morality impossible.

The initiation of force is not just a violation of rights. It is a rupture in moral agency. To live as a rational being means choosing — thinking, evaluating, acting. But when force is introduced, that process is broken. A mind under threat can no longer guide its life. It must submit — or defy at risk of ruin. In that moment, the moral dimension of action is erased.

This is why Rand called force the root of all political evil. Not because all suffering is caused by violence — but because all tyranny begins with the justification of coercion. The moment we accept that it is acceptable to override someone's mind "for the greater good," the principle of freedom collapses. And with it, the structure of ethics.

That collapse can come in many forms. A law that compels charity. A regulation that bans competition. A mob that silences dissent. A parent who punishes defiance without reason. The mechanism varies — but the architecture is the same: replace judgment with obedience.

Importantly, Objectivism distinguishes initiated force from retaliatory force. Retaliation is not a violation — it is a response to one. When properly structured, it restores the conditions of freedom by removing coercion. But to initiate force, however noble the cause, is to break the bridge between reason and action.

In a moral society, persuasion must be the only tool of change. The moment we reach for power instead of reason, we surrender what makes liberty possible — not just for others, but for ourselves.
